Octonauts Party Ideas

If you have an Octonauts fan at home, you already know the dedication these kids have to Barnacles, Kwazii, Peso, and the rest of the crew! My boys were absolutely obsessed—with the show, the books, the characters, and above all, playing Octonauts. So when my youngest requested an Octonauts birthday party—more specifically a Kwazii Kitten party—I was all in!
Today I’m sharing everything we did to make it a party to remember, along with a few fun Octonauts crafts, DIY projects, and freebies inspired by our favorite underwater crew!
Octonauts Hat
The Octonauts hat is one of my all-time favorite things I have ever made. My son insisted every guest have one—and since there were only eight children at the party, I made one for each of them! They were a bit time consuming but so worth it.

Custom Octonauts Party Shirts
For the party I made custom Octonauts shirts for both boys using fabric appliqué and fusible webbing. The birthday boy wore a Kwazii flag design and his brother got one too—because of course he did! They turned out beautifully and held up so much better than iron-on transfers.
My son’s shirt is still hanging in his closet all these years later. I know I should probably let it go…but I just can’t.
DIY Octonaut Toilet Paper Tube Characters
Long before all the Octonauts toys and figures were available in stores, I made my own using toilet paper tubes and colored paper. I worked from images on the computer, drew each character freehand, and cut and glued them onto the tubes. No patterns—just creativity and a lot of patience!
The boys played with these little characters for months after the party was over, which made every minute of cutting and gluing completely worth it. Looking back, I’m still pretty proud of how they turned out.
DIY Kwazii Birthday Cake
No Octonauts birthday party would have been complete without a Kwazii cake! Since Kwazii was my son’s favorite character, I knew he had to be the star of the birthday table.
I made the cake myself using homemade frosting and decorated it to look like Kwazii’s face. It certainly wasn’t bakery-perfect, but my birthday boy absolutely loved it—and that’s all that mattered. Looking back, it’s still one of my favorite birthday cakes I’ve ever made.
Octonauts Treasure Chest Goody Bag Holder
No Octonauts party is complete without a treasure chest! I made this one using a cardboard box covered in black poster board, complete with red fabric lining, silver ribbon trim, and a cut-out keyhole and lock. It was the perfect centerpiece for holding all the goody bags at the party—and my son got to carry it outside and hand them out himself!
DIY Octonaut Party Magnets
I have always loved magnets—I have collected them for years! So when I was planning my son’s fourth birthday, I decided to make custom Octonauts magnets to tuck into the goody bags and add to our own collection.
Using printed images attached to magnet sheets, they were surprisingly simple to make and added such a fun personal touch to the party. I still have a few of them on my refrigerator today, and every time I see them they remind me of that special birthday.
The Octonauts Party
After considering firefighters and Little Einsteins, my son finally settled on his Kwazii Kitten Octonauts party—and it turned out to be one of my favorite birthday parties to plan!
Invitations
I created the invitations using FREE high-quality Octonauts clip art from Wonders of Disney and printed them on card stock. The front featured the Octonauts logo while the back included all of the party details. They were simple to make and perfectly on theme!
Dress-Up
Every guest received an Octonauts hat and a black foam eye patch with elastic—because what’s an Octonauts party without a little pirate flair?
Octonauts Party Activities
The activities were simple and perfect for a warm summer day. Guests brought swimsuits and towels and spent the afternoon enjoying water play with spray bottles, koosh balls, a kiddie pool, a water table filled with blue rocks and Octonauts toys, and even “painting” the fence with buckets of water and paintbrushes.
Honestly, no organized games were needed. They were having far too much fun pretending to be Octonauts on their own adventures!
Food
For food, I made my son’s favorite homemade goldfish crackers using a fish-shaped cookie cutter so we could serve “Fish Biscuits” just like the Vegimals make in the show.
No actual fish included…I promise!

Goody Bags
The goody bags included telescopes, gold coins, ocean creature stamps, light-up sea urchin balls, homemade Octonaut magnets, and a set of FREE Octonauts playing cards printed on card stock and tied with twine.

Thank You Cards
To finish the party, I created matching thank you cards using the Octonauts logo. I replaced one of the Octonauts characters with my son’s smiling face and changed the logo to read THANK YOU instead. It was such a fun way to wrap up the celebration and send everyone home with one last Octonauts surprise!
One of the things I loved most about this party was how naturally it encouraged imaginative play. Even after the birthday cake was gone, my boys spent weeks wearing their hats, sailing around the yard, and heading off on Octonaut adventures.
By the end of the day, my son had already decided his next birthday party would be a Captain Barnacles party. Apparently one Octonauts celebration wasn’t enough!
That’s exactly the kind of birthday party I always hoped to create—one where the fun didn’t end when the guests went home.

I am turning 29 in November and who says you can’t throw yourself a party or celebrate your birthday only wn and enjoy party by yourself. And grown ups are allowed to have fun to. I am determined to throw self a party all day long day after actual birthday it is Sunday and friend will want to take me out to eat. And being disabled I can’t get jib back on topic. I am determined to throw myself a birthday party and some how combine The octonauts and pokémon because I like them both and don’t care what others think. Already have smeargle octonauts figures and going to make some octonauts and pokémon food. Pokémon bowling. Still working on idea for octonauts game and I will let my octonauts figures minus Tunip and Inkling take turn bowling pokémon I bought ping pong balls and going to use ball to bowl pokémon on solid surface. I will make fish biscuits sandwiches and stuff like that.
