Sponge Koosh Balls

How cute are these sponge koosh balls?

I have seen them all over the internet and have been dying to make some for my kiddos. It took me three trips to the store to remember to pick up some sponges, but when I finally did, we had a blast making them and  playing with them in our backyard kiddie pool.

You don’t need fancy sponges. You can find cheap sponges at the Dollar Store. Be sure to get a variety of colors to make the koosh balls look even better!  Try some different-sized sponges to see how they turn out!  Be sure to make a bunch of koosh balls so you have some to use outside and some to keep in the tub for bathtime.

Materials Needed:

sponges (any size will do)
scissors or elastic bands
string

Directions for Assembly:

  1. Gather your sponges and cut them the long way into strips. You can usually get 4 strips from each sponge.
  2. Stack 4 strips on top of 4 more strips.
  3. Pinch the strips in the middle.
  4. Tie them tightly around the middle with a string or an elastic band.

That’s it! You now have your very own, homemade spong koosh balls.

These koosh balls are great for bath time and are perfect for cooling off the little ones on hot summer afternoons! Kids love tossing them back and forth in the yard or at the pool. These koosh balls are even fun when they are dry! Try using them to learn to juggle or simply to practice catching. They only get better the more you play with them!

Where will you use your koosh ball?
