I Have, Who Has? Games
📝 This post, I Have, Who Has Games, was originally published in 2014 and has been updated with new information and resources.
If you have never played I Have, Who Has? with your class, you are in for a treat! This is one of those games that works for almost any skill, any grade level, and just about any time of day. Once students learn how to play, they will ask for it again and again.
I used I Have, Who Has? games for years in my classroom because they were easy to prep, easy to manage, and a fun way to review important skills without worksheets. Whether we were practicing time, place value, sight words, or Spanish vocabulary, these games kept everyone involved and listening. If you are looking for a simple whole-group activity that feels like play but still gives students meaningful practice, this is one of my favorite go-to classroom games.

What Is I Have, Who Has?
I Have, Who Has? is a whole-group card game that builds listening skills, focus, and academic fluency all at the same time. Each student receives one or more cards. The student with the starting card reads their card aloud: “I have ___. Who has ___?” The student who has the matching answer responds, and the game continues until every card has been played and the group makes it all the way around. It sounds simple — and it is! But it is also surprisingly engaging, even for older students.
Why Use I Have, Who Has? Games?
There are so many reasons to love this game — and trust me, once you try it, you will wonder how you ever managed without it!
💚 Whole group engagement. Every student has a card, which means every student has a role. There is no sitting on the sidelines in this game!
💚 Builds listening skills. Students have to pay close attention throughout the entire game — not just when it is their turn. This makes it a sneaky great listening activity!
💚 Fast and easy to manage. Once students know how to play, the game basically runs itself. You can sit back, observe, and take notes on who needs more practice.
💚 Works for almost any skill. From telling time to Spanish vocabulary, if it can go on a card, it can be used in an I Have, Who Has? game!
💚 Perfect for any time of day. Transition time, brain break, warm-up, or review — these games fit anywhere in your schedule.
💚 Students ask to play again. Enough said! 😄
How to Play
✔️ Print and cut out the cards.
✔️ Distribute one card to each student. If you have more cards than students, some students can hold two cards.
✔️ The student with the START card begins by reading their card aloud.
✔️ The student who has the matching answer reads their card next.
✔️ Play continues until every card has been read and the game circles back to the starting card.
✔️ For an extra challenge, time the group and see if they can beat their own record!
📝 Note: Encourage students to follow along even when it is not their turn — this keeps everyone engaged and builds listening skills!

Tips for Success
💡 Practice first! Before playing for the first time, do a quick run-through so students understand the format. Once they get it, the game moves quickly!
💡 Keep everyone engaged. Encourage students to follow along on their own cards even when it is not their turn — this keeps focus sharp and helps students catch any mistakes.
💡 Time it! Once students know the game, challenge them to beat their own time. This adds an extra layer of excitement and motivation!
💡 Differentiate easily. For students who need more of a challenge, give them two cards so they have more chances to participate. For students who need more support, pair them with a classmate or give them their card in advance so they can practice before the real game begins.
💡 Use it as a warm-up or transition activity. These games are perfect for those in-between moments — after lunch, before a lesson, or as a brain break!
💡 Let students lead! Once your class knows the game well, a student can take over as the timekeeper or game manager. A great leadership opportunity!
