These are some of my favorite books about shapes. I use them in my classroom year after year because not only do students love them, but they also provide meaningful opportunities for learning, discussion, and extension activities.

The Greedy Triangle by Marilyn Burns

Triangle is tired of being a triangle, so he visits a shapeshifter who magically transforms him into new shapes with more and more sides. First, he becomes a quadrilateral, then a pentagon, and continues changing into larger and larger shapes. But after all of his transformations, Triangle discovers that maybe being himself wasn’t so bad after all.

This story introduces children to geometry vocabulary and the attributes of shapes in a fun and memorable way.

Perfect Square by Michael Hall

Perfect Square is perfectly happy being a square—until one day he is cut, torn, shattered, and transformed into something completely new.
