Where Will You Hide Your Pot O’ Gold?

As children, we all dream about catching a leprechaun and stealing its gold! Just think about what you could do with it! But leprechauns are crafty little fellows, and catching one is no easy feat. And even if you did manage to catch one, getting the gold away from them? Nearly impossible.

But let’s say you did it. You caught the leprechaun AND got the gold. Now what? Where in the world would you hide it so no one could ever find it?

That is exactly the question I posed to my students for this fun St. Patrick’s Day writing activity!

Where Would You Hide the Gold?

Students were asked to think about the very best hiding spot for their pot of gold. They used the included templates to create their own pot of gold and write about where they would hide it and why.

The answers were absolutely priceless. We had students hiding their gold in volcanoes, under piles of boulders, and — my personal favorite — in their mom’s underwear drawer!  I love this age so much!

Perfect for St. Patrick’s Day

This writing activity pairs beautifully with some classic St. Patrick’s Day stories. One of my all-time favorites is Clever Tom and the Leprechaun — it is the perfect mentor text to read together before diving into the writing!
