FREE Thanksgiving Ordinal Number Activity Page
This post about the Thanksgiving Ordinal Number Turkey Activity has been updated with new resources and ideas!
Teaching ordinal numbers always seemed to coincide with Thanksgiving in my classroom. So I started wondering how I could combine the two into a simple math activity.
The idea actually came to me while I was home with a sick kiddo. Students would color turkey feathers and arrange them in ordinal number order. Simple!
I created the activity while he was resting, printed everything out, and had it ready to go for when he was feeling better and back at school himself!
I put together two versions of this activity so teachers could choose what worked best for their students.
In one version, students follow directions for coloring the turkey feathers and placing them in a specific order. In the other version, students choose their own feather colors and decide what order to place them in. Both versions include a recording sheet for students to complete.
I loved hanging these turkeys in the hallway! They were festive and perfect for Thanksgiving, but they also showed what students were learning about ordinal numbers.
Creating the Ordinal Number Turkey
Ready to make your own ordinal number turkeys? Here’s what you’ll need to get started!
Materials Needed
✔️ Turkey feathers templates and directions
✔️Construction paper for the turkey’s body and face
✔️Scissors
✔️Glue
✔️Markers or crayons
✔️Permanent marker (optional, for writing ordinal numbers on the feathers)
Once you’ve gathered your materials, students can color and cut out their turkeys and feathers. They then arrange the feathers according to the version you’ve chosen. After gluing everything in place, students complete their recording sheets to show the order of the feathers.
