Popsicle Stick Sunflowers
I get so excited when my arts and crafts package from CraftProjectIdeas.com arrives at my door! Each one contains such an interesting mix of craft supplies that my mind just starts spinning with ideas the moment I open it. This month, I was especially excited to find some jumbo popsicle sticks inside — because if you know me, you know I can find endless uses for popsicle sticks both at home and in the classroom! This time we decided to make these beautiful popsicle stick sunflowers, and I am so glad we did!
Popsicle Sticks Sunflowers are so simple to make, even for the youngest crafters, and you will just love how cheerful and bright they turn out! They also make the most wonderful Mother’s Day gift or garden marker — and at ages 3 and up, this is a craft the whole family can enjoy together!
What you need:
✔️jumbo popsicle sticks
✔️hot glue gun
✔️cardboard (a cereal box works perfectly!)
✔️ scissors
✔️ a pencil
✔️acrylic paints (these work best on the sticks.)
✔️paintbrushes
NOTE: I received some of these materials complimentary from CraftProjectIdeas.com. All opinions are my own!
How to Make Your Popsicle Stick Sunflower
Trace and cut a small circle from your cardboard. I used the rim of a drinking glass we had in the cabinet — easy and perfectly round!

Cut several jumbo popsicle sticks in half.
Arrange the popsicle stick halves around the cardboard circle and glue them in place. I use a hot glue gun, but regular craft glue works too — just allow extra drying time!

Continue adding popsicle sticks around the circle until there are no empty spaces between the sticks.
Add a full popsicle stick to the bottom to create the stem.
Now for the fun part — paint your sunflower! Let your child pick the colors they want to use. If you have a few real sunflowers on hand, they make a wonderful inspiration!

Note: Please ensure proper adult supervision when using the hot glue gun with young children!
I bet you cannot make just one! 🌻
What to Do With Your Popsicle Stick Sunflowers
Once your sunflowers are dry, the possibilities are endless! Here are some of our favorite ideas:
🌻 Plant them in a flower pot using real soil or brown tissue paper as soil
🌻 Add them to your garden for a cheerful pop of color
🌻 Write the names of your garden plants on them for easy identification
🌻 Hang them on your fence or porch to brighten things up
🌻 Give them to mom, grandma, or auntie as a sweet Mother’s Day gift
🌻 Write your child’s name or initials on one and hang it on their bedroom door
🌻 Write “Welcome” on one and place it near your front door
Where will you place your popsicle stick sunflowers? Leave a comment below and share your ideas — I would love to hear them!

love the idea for marking flower and veggie gardens. My son insists on using the ugly plastic markers that we get with the annuals that we buy. This is much cuter!
