Auntie Claus Activities
📝 This post, Auntie Claus Activities, was originally published in 2017 and has been updated with new information and resources.
Every Christmas there are certain books I can’t wait to read with my students, and Auntie Claus is always one of them. I absolutely love this book! I loved reading it with my own boys, and it quickly became one of my favorite holiday read-alouds in the classroom too.
The story is full of mystery, imagination, and Christmas magic. Every year my students tried to figure out Auntie’s secret before Sophie did, which led to wonderful discussions and predictions throughout the story.
After reading the book together, I wanted a simple activity that connected to one of the most memorable parts of the story. That’s how this sparkling key craft was born! If you’d like to make one with your students, I’ve included the FREE printable key template below.
About Auntie Claus
Written by Elise Primavera, this story follows Sophie, a curious little girl who can’t help but wonder about her unusual great-aunt. She lives in the Bing Cherry Hotel in New York City, serves Christmas cookies all year long, decorates the most beautiful Christmas tree in town, and mysteriously leaves on a “business trip” every December.
As Sophie searches for answers, readers discover that Auntie Claus may not be quite as ordinary as she seems. It’s a delightful holiday story filled with imagination, mystery, and Christmas spirit.

Some fun writing prompts include:

✏️ What would your magical key unlock?
✏️ If you could visit Auntie Claus, what would you ask her?
✏️ Imagine a new Christmas adventure for Sophie.
These open-ended activities encourage creativity while helping students make deeper connections with the story.
Read the Sequels!
If your students enjoy Auntie Claus, there’s good news—there’s more!
Auntie Claus Home for the Holidays: This heartwarming sequel follows Sophie as she dreams of playing the Sugar Plum Fairy in her school Christmas play. When Auntie Claus decides to spend Christmas in New York instead of the North Pole, Sophie experiences a holiday she’ll never forget. It’s another delightful story filled with family, tradition, and Christmas magic.

Auntie Claus and the Key to Christmas continues the story as Sophie’s younger brother, Christopher Kringle, begins to question the family’s mysterious Christmas business. His curiosity leads him on another magical adventure that expands the world of Auntie Claus and brings even more holiday magic to life.
