Short Vowel Sort and Bingo Game

I had an opportunity to work strictly with our first grade students who struggle with basic phonics for a short stretch of time. I wanted to do some activities that really drove home short vowel sounds so I created this game.

First, I prepared the game. I printed bingo boards, short vowel pictures and a sorting board for each child. We looked at the pictures and talked about what they are and what short vowel sounds they had.

I then asked them all to cut out the pictures and sort them on the sort board according to what short vowel they have.

After sorting and checking, students created their own bingo board using the pictures they wanted on their board.

And, after all the boards were complete, we played Bingo!
