The Best Spiderman Birthday Party

If your little one is obsessed with Spider-Man, you are in the right place! We recently threw an amazing Spider-Man birthday party for my 5-year-old — and after months of debating themes, Spider-Man won by a landslide! Our party was small but mighty, with games, crafts, a show-stopping cake, and goody bags the kids absolutely loved. Best of all, everything was simple enough for a busy parent to pull off without losing their mind! Keep reading for all the details!

Invitations

There are heaps of Spiderman birthday party invitations available at local party stores and on the internet. I chose to create the invitation myself simply because I love doing it! Using a free Spiderman font I found online and the fantastic Spiderman clip art Etsy, I created this invitation.

Decorations

Spiderman Candy Dishes

Materials Needed
✔️ small dish or vase (Dollar store)
✔️ black and white acrylic paints
✔️ tape
✔️ eye templates
✔️ red m&ms (you could use blue too!)

Making the Candy Dishes

🕸️  Download and print the Spiderman eyes. I’ve included a few sizes for you to choose from.

🕸️ Cut out the eyes and tape them to the inside of the dish.

🕸️ Use the acrylic paints to trace the eyes onto the dish.

🕸️ Peel the templates away, and you are ready for the candy.

📝Note: I bought a bunch of bags of m&ms and separated the red ones from the rest. Nowadays, you don’t have to do that. You can purchase all red m&ms online!  Adding some blue M&M’s would work too. 

Goodie Bags

Materials Needed

✔️ red paper bags
✔️ black and white paper
✔️ empty cereal box or other thin cardboard
✔️ Spider-Man eyes template
✔️ black and white paper
✔️ scissors
✔️ glue
✔️ Spider-Man-themed goodies (Oriental Trading Company)

How to Make the Spider-Man Goodie Bags

Print the Spider-Man eye template in a size that works with your paper bags. I needed to adjust the size of mine so the eyes fit nicely on the front of the bags.

Glue the eye shapes onto a piece of an empty cereal box or other thin cardboard. This makes them sturdy enough to use as stencils.

Cut out two stencils—one for the larger black portion of the eye and another for the smaller white portion.

Use the stencils to trace and cut enough black and white eye pieces for all of your goodie bags.

Glue each white eye piece onto a black eye piece to create a complete set of Spider-Man eyes.

Finally, glue one set of eyes onto each red paper bag. I tried adding a spiderweb with glue and glitter and then with a marker, but neither looked quite right, so I decided to keep the bags simple!

Wrapping Paper Cake Platter

Materials Needed

✔️ piece of glass, cardboard, or plastic sheet big enough to hold your cake. I used some old glass from a picture frame I did not need.
✔️ Spiderman wrapping paper  (web themed also works)

🕸️ Wrap the glass, cardboard or plastic with the wrapping paper.

🕸️ Cover the whole platter with contact paper if you would like to reuse it.

🕸️ Place the platter on the table to hold the birthday cake.

📝 Note: This idea comes in handy year after year!  Just remove the wrapping paper and rewrap with the new theme!

Spiderman Birthday Party Games

Pin the Web on the Baddie

Materials Needed

✔️spider web images
✔️Elmer’s Glue
✔️parchment or wax paper
✔️white glitter (optional)

How to Play: Hang some pictures of the villains on the wall and have players try to pin the web on the villains while wearing a blind fold.

We chose to use the word “baddie” instead of “bad guy” or “villain” to honor our time in Australia.  This game is basically the same as “Pin the Tail on the Donkey,” only you pin a homemade spider web on the baddie from the Spiderman comics.

Creating the Webs

🕸️Download and print out the spider web included here. There are two choices.

🕸️ Tape a piece of parchment paper over the web and secure with tape.

🕸️ Trace the webs with Elmer’s Glue, then sprinkle them with white glitter to make them sparkle.

🕸️ Once the webs were dry, we simply peeled them off the parchment paper, and they were ready to go. These webs take a few days to dry, so plan ahead!

📝 Note: The webs were sticky enough on their own to adhere to our door, but you can also add a bubble of tape or some sticky tack. 

Toss the Ball through the Giant Web

Materials Needed

✔️hula hoop (from the Dollar Store)
✔️Spiderman-themed duct tape, fabric, or wrapping paper
✔️string
✔️ ball or beanbag (something like this works well)

How to Play: Players take turns tossing a ball at the web, hoping to get it through the web.

Creating the Big Web

🕸️Wrap your hula hoop with the tape, fabric, or wrapping paper

.🕸️Wrap the string around the hula hoop to create a web. Be sure to leave space between the strings so the ball can go through!

🕸️ Hang the big web in a tree to play.

📝 Note: I used Spiderman Duct Tape to cover the hula hoop. That tape is no longer available, but this spiderweb tape would work just fine.

Coloring Table

I always like to include one quiet activity at parties for kids who need a little break from all the excitement. I printed out a bunch of free Spider-Man coloring pages and put them out with markers for any kids who wanted to sit and color for a bit.

 Spiderman Birthday Cake

Materials Needed

✔️ your favorite cake recipe
✔️ your favorite white icing recipe (to be dyed red)
✔️ red food coloring
✔️black piping gel (or black icing)
✔️ white fondant (can be purchased at your local craft store)
✔️ Spiderman eye templates

Making the Cake

🕸️ Make the cake as directed in a 9-by-11 (or similar) baking pan.  If you want the cake to be layered, make 2 cakes.

🕸️Once the cakes have cooled, cut them out in the shape of Spiderman’s face. You can print Spiderman’s face from the free templates included and trace it if desired.

🕸️ Make your favorite icing as directed in the recipe, then dye it red. Note that red gets darker over time, so don’t go crazy trying to make it too red.

🕸️ Ice the cakes with the red icing.

🕸️ For the eyes, I purchased some white fondant, cut them out, and placed them on the cake. I then outlined the white fondant with black piping gel.

🕸️ I used the same piping gel to make the “web” on Spiderman’s face.

📝Note: If layering, place one cake on top of the other with icing or jam in the middle. I used blue icing for the inside!

Your cake is now ready to be placed on your Spiderman platter!

One Last Fun Idea!

Oh, and here is one more silly addition to the celebration. I painted my toenails for the party. I used red and blue nail polish and then added webs with a black nail polish pen.

This party ended up being one of our favorite birthday celebrations, and years later, my boys still talk about the giant spider web game and the Spider-Man cake.
