Spring Math Facts Game
Both of my kids struggled to learn their math facts. They are teenagers now, and I honestly cannot say it has gotten much better! I tried everything I could think of to motivate them to practice — flashcards, timed drills, worksheets — and the only thing that ever truly worked was math facts games. This math facts game has a spring theme and is perfect for this time of year!
As a first-grade teacher, I found the same thing in my classroom. Games are simply more motivating than traditional fact practice, and they help students not only learn their facts but also gain the confidence they need to move forward. This Spring Flower Math Game has worked beautifully with my firsties over the years — and I just updated it to look even better than before!
It works for kindergarten through grade 3, and students can practice either addition or multiplication, making it perfect for differentiation.
Why games, not worksheets?
Math games are so much more motivating than worksheets — and I have seen this firsthand both at home and in the classroom! Students tend to invest so much more energy when they are playing a game than when they are staring down a worksheet.
Playing games also deepens conceptual understanding in a way that drill practice simply cannot. Games encourage problem-solving and conversation, which helps students understand the skill they are working on more clearly. They also give learners immediate feedback and a chance to adjust their strategies in a low-risk setting — no fear of failure, just fun!
And here is my favorite part — sometimes students learn better from each other than from their teachers! A little friendly competition and peer conversation go a long way when it comes to math facts!

What you need:
✔️game templates (download here)
✔️dice
✔️erasable markers
✔️laminator or plastic sleeves
✔️number line or hundreds chart (for extra support)
Preparing the game:
Download and print the template, then laminate it or place it in a plastic sleeve so you can reuse it again and again!
Note: If you are working with more than one student, prepare multiple templates so everyone can play at the same time!
How to play the Spring Math Facts Game:

- Decide what operation and fact family your student will practice. Write it in the center of the flower — make sure to include the operation symbol!
- Have the student roll the die and add or multiply the number on the die by the number in the center of the flower.
- The student then records the answer on one of the petals.
- Continue rolling and recording until all the petals are filled in.
- Erase and repeat with a new number or operation!
Ideas for Differentiation:
💡 Practice addition OR multiplication depending on where your student is
💡 Make it a partner game and play with a friend for extra fun
💡 For extra support, have a number line or hundreds chart available
💡 To add a challenge, have students use two dice instead of one
💡 For even further challenge, try a 9-sided or 20-sided die!
Whether you are using this in your classroom or at home with your own kids, this Spring Flower Math Game is a simple, engaging way to make math fact practice feel less like work and more like play.

This is a great idea! Both my kids could benefit from this game since I have a preschooler and a 3rd grader. I would just use different math fact for each. Seen you featured over at After School Linky
