Short and Long Vowel Printable Games

Short vowel sounds are so important for young readers and writers to know. As a first grade teacher, I am always looking for new ways to teach and reinforce the short vowels sounds. At a certain point, long vowel sounds are introduced and need the same attention. I created this series of games to practice the short and long sounds of each vowel. Each game has a board and a deck of cards. Students move around the board practicing long and short vowel sounds as they go.

These games go very well with the Words Their Way Spelling Program (Within Word Patterns). I have them available for my students to play after they have completed sorting their spelling words.
