Two Christmas Rhymes
Here are two more “5 Little Rhymes” to add to our collection. These are both wonderful rhymes to share with the little ones for Christmas.
Five Little Christmas Trees
Five little Christmas trees standing all alone
Their hearts were very sad ’cause they hadn’t found a home.
Then chop went the ax ,
And down fell one tree
And off it went with a happy family.
How to create the trees: Cut out 5 trees from green construction paper. Add small pompoms of different colors for the lights and ornaments. Many thanks to CraftProjectIdeas for all the tiny pompoms! Add a small, red heart to each tree as well to go along with the line, “Their hearts were very sad ’cause they hadn’t found a home.”

Five Little Candy Canes
Way up high on the Christmas tree
Five little candy canes winked at me
I shook that tree as hard as I could
And down came one candy cane
Mmm, Mmm, Good!!
Way up high on the Christmas tree
Four little candy canes winked at me…
How to create the candy canes: I used this great paper called, Art Canvas Paper, from CraftProjectIdeas. The paper itself is just like a canvas you would buy for painting, only it comes in a pad of 10 sheets. It works really well- paint goes on very smoothly and it dries really quickly. We painted red stripes on the paper, allowed it to dry and then cut out 5 candy canes using a cookie cutter as a stencil. We then added eyes to each candy cane since they are supposed to be winking. You can tell my boys added the eyes because they aren’t all the same size…. 🙂

Note: My holders for our “5 Little Rhymes” Series are still on a container ship heading this way so I do not have them to photograph, but if you are interested in directions for making them, see our post, Teacher Mama: Fall Fingerplays.

Thank you for sharing the rhymes. Aarya does not understand Christmas or any other festival, but i am sure he will love the Christmas tree decorations. This is a nice idea, and I am going to do this with him.
