My mom and I went out for dinner the other night (sans kids!) and we had a lovely time. When it came time for dessert, I ordered the special which was something like- Ferrero Rocher Cheesecake with vanilla ice cream and a beard. Well, that wasn’t exactly the title, but all the right words are there. I had no idea what to expect, but certainly didn’t expect what I got….
I have to say, I was a little weirded out at the sight of this. The cheesecake itself looked great, but the “beard” on top looked really creepy and a bit gross. It looked like someone had left their dog’s fur on my cheesecake. I braced myself and tasted it. I was pretty sure it was some relation to cotton candy/fairy floss and it was, but not nearly as sweet nor as appealing. So I removed the beard, placed it in a napkin and brought it home to show my boys. My youngest took one look at it and literally started backing away. My eldest dove right in and ate it all up.
In the days after the “beard dessert incident,” I continued to have this nagging feeling that I had seen this hair-like thing before- somewhere, but couldn’t put my finger on it. Then, as I was rummaging through my son’s pictures books, it hit me. I found what it was that it reminded me of….
It is this illustration from Robert Munsch’s book, Aaron’s Hair, that was lingering in the back of mind. It is a story of a little boy who grows his hair long to be like his dad, but his hair doesn’t ever do what he wants it to do. So one day he screams, “Hair, I hate you!” and the hair jumps off his head, runs away and wreaks all kinds of havoc around town.
So that was it. That was what happened to my dessert. Aaron’s hair, had landed on my cheesecake….

Oh man I got such a good laugh out of that! I can just imagine if that was handed to me… My husband would have made some comment and we would have laughed so hard 😀
It sure gave us a good laugh! In fact we are still laughing!!!
It looks like the cook trimmed his hair over your dessert. I’m guessing this will not be a trendsetter!

That is disgusting. I wouldn’t have even eaten it. Gross!
Ugh, no I couldn’t have eaten it. Reminds me of the sausage in the kids book “The Terrible Wild Grey Hairy Thing” http://www.google.com.au/imgres?um=1&hl=en&sa=N&biw=1366&bih=643&tbm=isch&tbnid=MrKkI2VkVX6niM:&imgrefurl=http://www.sella.co.nz/general/books/children-babies/picture-books/other/5mshgc/display-images/5ljhv6/&docid=qJ9-K8trGGEEvM&imgurl=http://cdn.sella.co.nz/images/thumb/h/v/6/5ljhv6-640×500.jpg&w=640&h=500&ei=9-hjULrEBOmyiQet4YCoBw&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=197&vpy=163&dur=392&hovh=196&hovw=252&tx=141&ty=88&sig=108335734141427581241&page=1&tbnh=149&tbnw=191&start=0&ndsp=19&ved=1t:429,r:0,s:0,i:71
