World Animal Day
Every year on October 4th, people across the globe celebrate, World Animal Day. This year, in honor of World Animal Day, a group of kid bloggers (myself included) have come together to share stories of the importance of animals in our lives and the lives of others.
Here is my story.
Celebrating the Laughter that Animals Bring to Our Lives
I have been wracking my brain trying to come up with a post for this wonderful celebration of animals. I think I have written 4 different drafts, but didn’t like any of them. Then, just as I was getting frustrated and about to throw in the towel, my dog did the funniest thing. And the light went off and I thought- well that’s it! The humor and the laughter that our dogs (animals) bring into our daily lives. That is what I want to share with the world!
When I was a little girl, I had a wonderful book called, My Cat Likes to Hide in Boxes by Eve Sutton. It has been years since I’ve last seen a copy of the book, but just happened upon a copy recently at my local bookstore. The book tells of cats all over the world and all the amazing things they can do like play the violin and fly airplanes, but “my cat,” an ordinary house cat, “likes to hide in boxes.” Well, I don’t have a cat, but I do have two precious Pugs. And my older Pug, Manzie, doesn’t like to hide in boxes, but she does like to climb into the funniest places to hang out or to nap. When we find her in these places, we laugh. We laugh together as a family and as animal lovers. The laughter makes us all lighter, it brings us closer and provides memories for later on. Without our dogs we would of course still laugh, but with them there is more laughter and more fun in our lives.
Here are some of the places we have found her hanging out or sleeping….
In my son’s stuffed animal basket– with all the animals….
In a SMALL plastic basket full of clothes…
In a regular sized laundry basket…
In an IKEA bag full of clothes to be given away….
On my husband’s dirty laundry pile…
In a laundry basket– look where her paws are…
In my husband’s yet-to-be-unpacked suitcase…
In the cardboard box that my son’s guitar came in….
In the suitcase again….
ON TOP of the suitcase this time...
Resting on plastic tarp…
In my son’s reading corner…
Under my son’s crib and resting on the Duplo…
And this has to be our favorite and the one that inspired this post-
in a cardboard box full of all our supplies for playing coffee shop!
Thanks for all the laughs, Manzie!

Your dog is just gorgeous! Look at that little face, I just want to give her a big squishy cuddle 🙂 Thanks for linking up with #52weeksofgrateful x
Thank you Kylie! She is quite cuddly. 🙂
awww… I love this post!
Thanks!
Omg! I was having a good giggle at Manize. What a cutie pie! Pets are the best! They bring heaps to a family. It took only two weeks for hubbie and I to buy a dog when we bought our first house. It felt so empty without one. Sam cam along and the house felt like home.
My blog post is coming up on Wednesday and I’m a little nervous about it too. I know what I’m going to use but I’m worried about the topic.
Penny, This was a challenge for sure! Looking forward to your post!!
Beautiful!!!
