Egg Carton and Popsicle Stick Flowers
It feels like forever since I have done any crafts with my boys. Between school, after school activities, homework and all the other parts of daily life, crafting has definitely taken a back seat. Last night while not sleeping, I came up with this idea using egg cartons and popsicle sticks. I am excited to share it with you all!
Materials
egg carton
popsicle sticks
Q-tips
scissors
hot glue
paints (green plus other colors of your choices)
Cutting
Cut the egg carton apart into as many flowers as you like.
Cut the tips off the pointy part of the carton. Not sure what the technical name is! 🙂 See photo below:
Cut the Q-tips in half- 3 pieces for each flower
Preparing the Flowers
Hot glue the tip pieces from the egg carton into the open part of the dimple of the egg carton pieces. Yes, that IS the technical term! 🙂
Painting
Have your child paint the popsicle sticks green on both sides and set aside to dry. Once dry, cut off the ends as shown below.
While the sticks are drying, have your child paint the egg carton pieces.
Dip each Q-tip into yellow paint.
Allow all the pieces to dry.
Assembling the Flowers
Hot glue the flat end of the popsicle stick to the bottom of the egg carton flower.
Put some hot glue inside the center of the flower and put the Q-tips inside.
Finally, hot glue the small pieces left over from the popsicle sticks to the sides of the stem to create leaves.
There you have it! Your very own egg carton and popsicle stick flowers. We actually “planted” them in our garden to dry in the sun. They look wonderful. Tomorrow they go to school with my youngest for a gift for his teacher. 🙂
