Thanksgiving Activities for the Classroom
I don’t know about you, but I always love and dread the final few days before the Thanksgiving Holiday. I love it because of the excitment in the classroom and the anticipation of what is to come over the long weekend. I dread it because the kids are bouncing off the walls and it can be very hard to get anything done. So based on the dread and excitment, I came up with a handful of Thanksgiving Activities to make those final days before the holidays break easier for the teacher yet still engaging and motivating for students. Here are a few of my favorites.

Thanksgiving Addition and Subtraction Coloring Pages
You can’t get much more low prep than this! Simply choose the pages you want to use depending on your group, copy them and you are done! My students always love these coloring pages!!
How Do You Fill Your Thanksgiving Plate? Craft and Writing Activity
Ok, I am going to admit, I am really proud of this one. 🙂 I created it thinking about the traditional Thanksgiving Plate, but had a few students from other countries in my class. When I looked at the plates they created, I realized- whoa! I need to think bigger! I had stuents who had a complete Indian meal on their plate- no traditional Thanksgiving food to be found! Don’t you just love it when students teach YOU something?
Thanksgiving Dinner Plate Glyph
This one is really fun, too! Each plate is “set” according to a series of prompts shared by the teachers. For example, the number of turkey legs on the plate is equal to the number of people you will be celebrating the holiday with. There are 8 prompts in this glyph and I just added a data recording sheet.
Thanksgiving Five Senses Reflective Writing Activity
This activity can be done in anticipation of the Thanksgiving holiday or after. Students use their 5 senses and write about their holiday experience- what they see, smell, taste, feel and hear then add a picture.
Thanksgiving Writing Activities
Finally, here are some Thanksgiving Writing Activities. Again, these are NO PREP. Just print them and go! Lots of activities to choose from many of which students can complete independently. There are 7 activities included in this packet including a Thanksgiving Word Search, How to Make a Pumpkin Pie Writing and What’s Your Favorite Thanksgiving Food? Writing.
These are just a few of the activities I have for Thanksgiving. If you want to see them all, click HERE.
