Thanksgiving Activities for the Classroom

I don’t know about you, but I always love and dread the final days before Thanksgiving break. On one hand, the classroom buzzes with excitement and anticipation for the long holiday weekend. On the other hand, students are often extra energetic and easily distracted, which can make it challenging to keep meaningful learning going.
To help with those tricky days, I created a collection of engaging Thanksgiving classroom activities that are both easy for teachers to implement and highly motivating for students. These activities are designed to channel student excitement in a positive way while still supporting learning objectives. They work well for whole group lessons, centers, small groups, or those moments when you need something purposeful and fun. Below are a few of my tried-and-true favorites.
Thanksgiving Addition and Subtraction Coloring Pages
You can’t get much more low-prep than this! Simply choose the pages you want to use, print them, and you are done! My students always love these coloring pages!!
How Do You Fill Your Thanksgiving Plate? Craft and Writing Activity
Ok, I am going to admit, I am really proud of this one. 🙂 I created it thinking about the traditional Thanksgiving Plate, but had a few students from other countries in my class. When I looked at the plates they created, I realized- whoa! I need to think bigger! I had students who had a complete Indian meal on their plate- no traditional Thanksgiving food to be found! Don’t you just love it when students teach YOU something?
Thanksgiving Dinner Plate Glyph

This one is really fun, too! Each plate is “set” according to a series of prompts shared by the teachers. For example, the number of turkey legs on the plate is equal to the number of people you will be celebrating the holiday with. There are 8 prompts in this glyph, and I just added a data recording sheet.
Thanksgiving Five Senses Reflective Writing Activity
This activity can be done in anticipation of the Thanksgiving holiday or after. Students use their 5 senses and write about their holiday experience- what they see, smell, taste, feel, and hear, then add a picture.
Thanksgiving Writing Activities
Finally, here are some Thanksgiving Writing Activities. Again, these are NO PREP. Just print them and go! Lots of activities to choose from, many of which students can complete independently. This packet includes 7 activities: a Thanksgiving Word Search, How to Make a Pumpkin Pie Writing, and What’s Your Favorite Thanksgiving Food? Writing.
