# UPDATE VERSION AVAILABLE HERE

We are working on fact families in first grade. My students are doing really well with the concept, but I made this practice sheet set anyway. 🙂

## What is a fact family?

What is a fact family you may ask. Well, a fact family is made of 3 numbers. And from those 3 numbers, one can create  4 related math facts (2 addition and 2 subtraction). For example:

4+6=10

6+4=10

10-6=4

10-4=6

## Why are fact families important?

They teach how numbers relate.

They teach basic addition and subtraction facts.

They teach the concept of equality.

They teach turn around facts. (4+6=10 and 6+4=10)

They help teach missing addend facts. (4+__=10)

## How to use the Practice Sheets:

Print the templates.

Give each student a sheet.

Have him fill in the correct facts.

Have her highlight the whole number in each addition and subtraction sentence.

To challenge students, use the blank sheet and fill it in with higher numbers.

Blank sheets could be used for multiplication and division as well.
