FREE Printable What Gets a Capital Letter? Book
My students are first graders, so of course using capital letters correctly and consistently is a work in progress. I wanted to create an activity where they practice using capital letters in all the different places they are needed so I made this fun and FREE What Gets a Capital Letter Waterfall book. My students love these waterfall books and are always asking me to make them for them.
Directions
Download the templates and print them out.
Make as many copies as you need for your student or students.
Assemble the book. For directions, see our post FREE Coin Combination Book
The book will look something like the photo below:
Once the book is assembled, work through it with the group discussing the rules of capitalization as you go. Students write several examples of each rule on each page.
Example
Names of Places Page: Student wrote, “Target” and “Dollar Tree” both with capital letters .
Names of People Page: Student wrote, “Finley” and “Lillian” both beginning with capital letters
The Letter “I” When you are Talking about Yourself Page: Student wrote, “I no math.”
Once students completed the book in pencil and we made the necessary corrections, I had them go over all the capital letters with marker and draw pictures if they liked.
