Skip Counting Craft
Skip counting was on the agenda this week. My first graders are pretty good with it already thanks to our fantastic kindergarten teachers, but I wanted to do a few activities anyway. The first idea was this skip counting craft.
Creating Skippy, the Skip Counter
Materials
templates
scissors
glue
markers, colored pencils or crayons
construction paper (any colors)
Directions
Print the templates. I printed 10 or so of each paper and had the students share.
Have students choose a piece of construction paper and cut it into their desired body shape for Skippy. My students used a piece of 12×18 construction paper. Be sure they do not make it too small or Skippy’s features won’t fit.
Once the bodies are cut, students can choose how many of each feature they want for their own Skippy. They should color and cut each feature before gluing it to their Skippy.
As they add eyes, students count by 2s. As they add feet, they count by 5s and as they add hair, they count by 10s. I told my students they had to add at least two of each feature to their Skippy so that they can practice skip counting!
After the Skippy the Skip Counters were finished, students completed the following paper and glued it to their Skippy.
Here are a few of my student’s Skippy, the Skip Counters.

This is a cute idea! It looks like they would have just as much fun making it as they would using it! Thanks for sharing!
