Writing Activities for Pajama Day at School
We have Pajama Day at school next week and I wanted to some activities for my students to do that related to the theme. I created one idea which then turned into seven…. I am excited to try some of these ideas with my first graders next week.
Writing Activities for Pajama Day
Me and My PJs
Students write about the pajamas they are wearing using descriptive language. I tell my students that by reading their writing, a guest in the classroom should be able to identify their pajamas!
Pajama Venn Diagram
Pair up students and have them record the similarities and differences between each other’s pajamas.
Pajama Day People Search
With this activity, students have to walk around the classroom and see what sorts of pajamas their classmates are wearing. For example, students need to write the name of one classmate in the circle that says, “wearing footie pajamas.” They then find another classmate that is “wearing pink pajamas” and write that classmate’s name in that circle.
How to Host a Pillow Fight
Students write the steps for hosting a pillow fight using the words first, next, then, after that and finally.
The Monster Under My Bed
This activity can be done a number of different ways. The first, is a descriptive writing activity about a monster under the bed. Another as a creative writing activity about how the monster got under the bed or, a third, a problem with the monster under the bed and a fourth, something the student and monster do together. For monster book suggestions, see our post Book Mama: Monsters Under the Bed: 6 Books for Overcoming Fears of Monsters

I cannot find the word nightgown in the Pajama Day Word Search. Can you let me know where this word is located? If it is not on the grid, you may want to remove it from the list of words of find…
Ellen, Please go back to TPT and download the updated version. It has been deleted! Thanks! Stephanie
Thank you for sharing!!! My class is using your PJ Day word search right now (in their pajamas of course!) and we can’t find nightgown! Is it definitely on the word search??
It’s tricky to find. My students had the same problem last week!! I will check with them when I get to school in a bit and let you know!!

fab activities for PJ day
I love the People Search. Sounds like a fun day at school.
There are some really cute ideas here. I’ll keep them in mind. 🙂
Kids love pj day don’t they? I taught high school and the kids still loved it! Something about being all lovely and comfy all day. We would always spend the time after lunch with pillows, popcorn and movies….hmmm that might have something to do with it 😀
You come up with some great ideas and twists!
Wow! There’s some fantastic resources there. I’m so scanning your whole blog when I become a teacher. I dare say I’ll end up printing one of each print out on here.
On another note, Miss Poss might be read for word searches. I’ll have to give them a go!
Thanks Penny!
