Creating a Book with Favorite Songs and Rhymes
One of my son’s favorite songs as toddler was a song called, “The Fire Truck Song.” We learned this song in our gym class and we sang it all the time.
You may know the song, the first verse goes like this:
Hurry, hurry drive the fire truck!
Hurry hurry, drive the fire truck!
Hurry, hurry, drive the fire truck!
Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding!
I love having books to go along with our favorite songs, so I I looked for a book with this song, but couldn’t find one.
So, I decided to make one myself.
Materials:
- card stock type paper
- computer/printer
- markers/crayons (your choice)
Directions:
1. Type (or write) the words to your favorite song/rhyme on a heavier paper like card stock. Put one verse on each page. Use a clear font and in a large size. This will be helpful when the child gets older and wants to read the book himself.
2. Add illustrations for each page. I took free clip art from the internet and pasted it on the pages with the verse. You can do this using the copy/paste function of your computer or print out the images and glue them on the pages by hand.
3. Color the illustrations.
4. Bind the book. This can be as simple as stapling the sides together or, if you like, you can go to a copy shop like Kinkos and ask them to bind it for you.
Now you have your very own book to read and share with your child!
