Bubble Gum Consonant Blends Game

I am gearing up for the new school year and thinking abou all the many things I will be teaching my firsties. One of the biggies early in the school year is beginning consonant blends. While blends are not the most difficult concept discussed throughout the year, they are important for reading and writing. I created this game for a fun way to help my students learn and practice beginning consonant blends.

Bubble Gum Beginning Consonant Blends Game

Materials

templates

pencil

empty Pringles can (small size)

Preparation

Print templates:. pages 2 and 3 should be printed on card stock for durability.

Cut apart gum template.

Cut label and glue or tape it onto the Pringles can.

Copy record sheet (one per player)

How to Play

Place the container of “gum” in the center of the group. Have the first player draw a card, read the blend on the card and say a word that begins with that blend.

For students who are ready, have them write the word on the record sheet in the appropriate column. Continue this way until all players have had a few turns.
