Dump Truck Name Spelling Game

We continue to work on spelling my youngest’s name. He has all the right letter, only they don’t always appear in the right order. 🙂 I printed out the letters of his name and covered them with packing tape (I love packing tape!) for durability. I then placed them in the back of one of his dump truck’s and brought them to him. I got all silly and made a dump truck voice- which really sounded more like a robot than anything else, but he loved it! The dump truck dumped the letters over and over and he had to put the letters in the right order. He probably would have played all night, but after a handful of rounds, I was done.

I happened to have a few hours to myself this afternoon (thank you neighbor!!) and decided to make the letters of his name more like “rubble.” I grabbed a handful of the many bottle caps I have saved, a paint pen and wrote each letter on one cap. I set the truck on the table and it was ready when he came home.

He was thrilled! He quickly dumped out his “load…”

and set to work spelling his name.

Sometimes he gets it right and other times, not so much. I guess the most important thing is that he is having fun and having a positive experience. We have all summer to practice and play.

Of course, big brother wanted in on the action as well. He already knows how to spell his name so I opted for using the same idea to teach him our home phone number which he mastered in a matter of seconds…. 🙂
