Pajama Day Books!
Pajama Day is right around the corner in our school. I have a bunch of writing activities all set to go, my pajamas picked out and now I even have a list of pajama day books to share with my students. Here they are:
What You Never Knew About Beds, Bedrooms and Pajamas
(by Patricia Lauber)
I just love this series of What You Never Knew About series. They are fun to read and informative. This version tells all about the history beds, bedrooms and pajamas including fun facts like– nightclothes were not invented until the 1500s when people wore their day clothes to bed. Or, that the phrase, “make your bed” comes from the days when people really did make their beds each evening by stuffing straw into a sack!
Animals Don’t Wear Pajamas: A Book About Sleeping
(by Eve Feldmen)
In this sweet bedtime story, Feldmen shares the “bedtime” routines of sixteen different animals around the world.
The Practically Perfect Pajamas
(by Erik Brooks)
Percy Orlando Leonard Alexander Reginald Bear just loves his pajamas, but is teased by the other bears for wearing them. Only his friend, Aurora, an Arctic Fox, secretly admires his pajamas. So while trying to fit in with his fellow bears, Percy packs away his pajamas and the teasing stops, but Percy runs into all other kinds of trouble with out them. He spills cocoa in his fur, the cold ice hurts his paws and worst of all, he cannot get a good night’s sleep. Aurora finally convinces Percy to not only wear his pajamas, but to share his extra pajamas with the others!
Llama Llama Red Pajama
(by Anna Dewdney)
Llama, Llama red pajama
waiting, waiting for his mama.
Mama isn’t coming yet.
Baby Llama starts to fret.
This is the first in the Llama Llama book series. In this book Llama turns bedtime into a huge drama when he is left alone to go to sleep and begins to worry about where his mom is and what she is doing.
Pajama Time
(by Sandra Boynton)
This has been a favorite in our house since both my boys were little. This rhyming, sing-songy story shows all sorts of creatures donning their favorite pajamas. The repeated lines, “Pajammy to the left. Pajammy to the right. Jamma jamma jamma jamma P!J! Everybody’s wearing them for dancing tonight. Jamma jamma jamma jamma P!J!” stay with children and you will often hear them singing as they put their pajamas on at night!
Pajama Day!
(by Lynn Plourde)
It’s Pajama Day at school and everyone is wearing their favorite pajamas except Drew A Blank. Drew forgot not only his pajamas, but his slippers, his teddy bear and his favorite snack. Drew doesn’t want to be left out on pajama day, but can he find a way to join in anyway?
The Pajama Elves
(by Hayden Edwards)
The Pajama Elves is the story of a family’s holiday tradition of giving children magical pajamas secretly made by Santa’s sewing elves. These special pajamas help children sleep snug in their beds on Christmas Eve
