A Compound Word Game
I created this game while at “cruising altitude” on a trip from Seattle to Chicago. Not quite sure where the inspiration came from, but mostly likely the frigid temperatures that were awaiting us in Chicago. This is my first try at a compound word activity so I hope you all like it. It is free so even if you don’t no harm done- right? 🙂
Mitten Match Game
To begin, click HERE, HERE and HERE to download the templates. If desired print the polka-dot page on the back of the mitten pages. It makes it look nice and also makes it so you cannot see through the cards. Once printing is done, cut the cards apart. Print the real word/nonsense word page. You will need one copy per player. You can also laminate the sheets or put them in a clear pocket so it can be used over and over.
Once the cards are prepared and the worksheet copied, place all the cards face down in rows.
Player One begins the game by choosing two cards. If the cards make a real compound word, he writes the word on the paper under “real word” and removes the cards from the game. If it is not a real word, the word gets recorded in the other column and the cards go back in the game. Player Two repeats the same steps. Play continues until all the cards have been made into compound words, or until no more compound words can be made.
