Make Your Own Treasure Chest Octonauts Style

Before I begin this post, I have to give credit where credit is due. My inspiration for this creation came from The Imagination Tree’s post, DIY: Treasure Chest. From this inspiration came my version.

How to Make a Treasure Chest

Materials:

cardboard box with lid attached
extra box
black poster board (at least 3 sheets)
red fabric
silver craft paper
hot glue
scissors
silver ribbon

Directions:

To begin, I traced all four sides (excluding the bottom and top) of the box onto black poster board. I cut the tracings out and glued them to the sides of the box with hot glue.

Using another box, I cut 4 pieces in an arch shape as pictured below.

I glued 2 popsicle sticks to the back of one arch and affixed it to the side of the box also with the hot glue. I did the same on the other side of the box.

I attached the two remained arches between the ends with A LOT of hot glue.

I then traced the sides of the box onto the black paper and covered the sides as show below.

Then I took one complete piece of black poster board and beginning in the back, hot glued it from the back to the front to complete the lid of the box.

Next, I took the silver ribbon (from Target) and affixed it to the top inside of the box, over the top, down the back, up the front and into the box with the hot glue. I added small dots of hot glue along the way to keep the ribbon in place. I then did the same with the other side.

To line the box, I grabbed some red fabric I had in my stash, folded the edges to created a clean hem and glued them together with the hot glue. Then, using the hot glue, I worked my way around the inside of the box, attaching the red fabric to the insed of the box.

Finally, I cut out a lock and keyhole shape from the silver and black papers and glue them in place.

And that is it! Our Octonauts’ Style Treasure Chest is complete and ready to be filled with our goodie bags for the party.
