Teacher Mama: Simple and Silly: Fun Pointers for the Classroom

Fun Pointers for the Classroom

This is, by no means, one of those posts that is going to inspire greatness, but it is a fun one! Long ago, before children,  I attended a math workshop where the presenter had all these fun pointers that she used while presenting. She encouraged us to go home, make a pointer, take it to the classroom and see what the kids think. So, my teaching partner at the time, and I dutifully (and oh, so willingly) went home and created a few different pointers. We actually attached a flip flop to one of the dowels if you can believe it!  And guess what? Yep! The kids loved it- of course! Why wouldn’t they?  Anyway, when CraftProjectsIdeas.com sent me a package of round dowels, I decided that it was time to create some new pointers for my classroom.

Materials:

Directions:

First stop was Joann’s where I picked up some of their pre-made shapes for 59 cents a piece. I chose two of each shape so I could attach one to each side.

I warmed up my hot glue gun and took out my package of dowels from CraftProjectsIdeas.com. The package came with several different thicknesses of round dowels and I chose to use the ones that were mid-size.

I then hot glued the premade shapes to the dowels and they looked like this when they were done.

I think the ketchup pointer is my favorite because look what is on the back side…Mustard! HA!

I can’t wait to take these to school tomorrow and show my students. I know they will be so excited to try them out during our morning meeting.

Note: These would also be great for children who like to play school at home. My youngest loves to use them to pretend he is the teacher doing calendar time with the class.

This post is dedicated to my friend, teaching partner, fellow boy mama and creator of the wonderful Playdough to Plato!
