Skills Practice Tube

Don’t know about you, but I have about 12 empty salt containers sitting in my craft closet. I have a few ideas for them, but thought of this one in the middle of the night last night.  My son needs practice with his math facts and I created this in hopes giving him a fun and different way to practice.

Materials

empty salt container

colored paper

packing tape or clear contact paper

scissors

glue

clear tape

Creating Your Practice Tube

Cover your salt container with colored paper. You don’t have to do this step, but I think it looks nicer this way. Cover the container with packing tape or contact paper. This is good not only for durability, but also helps the paper slide around the container more easily.

Cut the templates apart being sure not to cut the top off.  I add some clear tape at both ends. This allows me to remove the strips and replace them with others without tearing the paper.

Wrap one strip around the container and tape the ends together.

Repeat with the other strip.

Finally, I cut out two green arrows and attached them with clear tape. This will help students know where to line up the numbers.

The tube is now complete and ready to use! You can use this particular set of number to strips to practice addition, subtraction, and multiplication facts. The second set of strips in the free template is the same only has numbers 10-20 for students who are ready for higher numbers.

I have also created strips to practice the following skills:
