Another Use for a Pringles Can…PLACE VALUE!
Since you already have the Pringles or “practice tube” ready to go, here is a way to use it to help your child with Place Value. This is very similar to the Place Value Flip Book and a bit easier to put together. For directions for putting the tube together, see the post Teacher Mama: Word Family Practice Tube and for ways to make use of the tube once completed, see the post Teacher Mama: Place Value Practice with a Flip.
Mama Directions:
- Assemble the tube.
- Print out the template.
- Optional: I always put some clear tape or contact paper on each end of the template to make removing and replacing the strips easier and to help them last longer. See picture below.
- Cut the template into strips.
- Put the strips on the tube making sure to begin with the “ones” at the right and work your way to the left. You can add as many strips as you like. For younger kids, start with 2 or 3 strips and add more as their understanding of place value becomes more solid. Store extra strips inside the can for safe keeping!
